OnePlus 12R

OnePlus 12R

Every smartphone has a story behind it, but it was made to cater to a certain segment of the market. That’s why I believe that there is no perfect smartphone for everyone. But there is a perfect smartphone for you. So what is the story with this OnePlus 12R smartphone? Well, it’s a pretty interesting story and one that we will talk about, but first, let’s check what is inside the box of this smartphone.

So first, you get a signature red box from OnePlus that is normal; you get the OnePlus 12R smartphone; you also get a phone whole seal sticker that is for UV coating that you get; you also get a never settle card; and on the back you have the name of OnePlus members of the OnePlus community, which is pretty awesome. Apart from that, you get a TPU case that is blue; a type A to type C cable; a 100W adaptor; and at last, a sim ejector tool.

Design

So first, let’s talk about the design because OnePlus seems to be taking inspiration from Samsung and the iPhone. As you can see from the from the last year’s OnePlus 11R and the latest OnePlus 12R, they both look and feel identical, and it’s not a bad thing either, because the first reason is that the design is still pretty good and modern, and the second reason is that keeping the same design makes it easier to spot a OnePlus phone in public.

Protection

The phone weighs around 207 grams. You get a glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus 2), an aluminum frame, a glass back, and a metal frame. So the phone looks and feels pretty premium in hand; however, one thing to point out is that this blue color is like a fingerprint magnet, so use the included cover. And there is no IP rating on this smartphone, so it is safe from water.

Display

Alright, so you get a 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED display. The display is offering a 120Hzrefresh rate for smooth gameplay. However I must mention a few thing about the display like OnePlus says that the peak brightness of this smartphone is 4500 nits, and even though they advertise it as such, we had a device that told us the exact nits, and I played HDR videos on YouTube, and I found that it goes up to only around 1200 nits.

A bonus feature with this display is upgraded battery life because the phone comes with an LTPO 4.0 display, which is a big upgrade from last year. So I scrolled YouTube on the OnePlus 11R and OnePlus 12R, and the result was: The OnePlus 11R stays at 60 Hz on YouTube, but 120 Hz on the OnePlus 12R; same on the calculator app. The OnePlus 12R can come down to 1 Hz, so the dynamic shift from 1 to 120 Hz depending on what you’re doing on the screen reduces battery life. Also, you get a massive 5500mAh battery. If you play heavy tasks on this smartphone, the phone can still last 1 day easily.

Camera

The OnePlus 12R smartphone comes with a triple rear camera setup, featuring a 50 MP f/1.8 (wide angle) camera, an 8 MP f/2.2 (ultra wide) camera, and a 2 MP f/2.4 (macro) camera with autofocus. The camera is also upgradable from last year; the sharpness and the colors are all good. And the rear camera can record videos in 4K at 30 fps UHD or 1080p at 30 fps FHD. The phone features a single front camera setup for selfie, featuring a 16 MP sensor.

Performance

The chipset is also upgraded from last year because this OnePlus 12R is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. According to this price segment, the phone is one of the best gaming phones. The phone comes with 8GB and 16GB of RAM. The phone runs on Android 14.
